In the final game of the season a controversial whistle took away a touchdown for the Roughriders, and unfortunately it was the deciding factor in the game. There was a BC Lions fumble close to the goal line, it was recovered at the 3 yard line and returned for a touchdown.
It went to the replay centre and was determined that there was in fact, a fumble. However, there had been a whistle and the play was dead at the 3. The final score of the game was 27-21 BC over Saskatchewan.
The error has led to a number of things, most notably home field advantage in the West Semi-Final for the BC Lions. As well as other playoff implications.
East Semi-Final Matchup
Saturday November 1 @ 12pm MT
Winnipeg Blue-Bombers @ Montreal Alouettes
The result of the BC-Saskatchewan game means that the Winnipeg Blue-Bombers will travel to Montreal in the crossover position. No team has ever made it to the Grey Cup game via the crossover.
The Alouettes have one of the best starting quarterbacks in the CFL in Davis Alexander, who broke a CFL record for most consecutive wins to begin a career and is still undefeated as a starter. The winner will face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Hamilton to decide who will play for the 112th Grey Cup.
West Semi-Final Matchup
Saturday November 1 @ 3:30pm MT
Calgary Stampeders @ British Columbia Lions
The bid for a home playoff game for the Stampeders ended with the Lions win over the Roughriders. The Stampeders are back in the playoffs after missing last season. Before that they made the playoffs a CFL record 18 years in a row.
The BC Lions are one of, if not, the hottest team in the CFL. The also have the face of the league at quarterback in Canadian Nathan Rourke. If the Stampeders hope to win, they must contain Rourke, and stop Matthieu Betts from getting to Adams JR. The winner will face the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina November 8th for the right to play for the 112th Grey Cup.
It was one of the most dramatic finishes to a CFL season in recent memory, and the playoffs should be just incredible to watch. I’m looking forward to it, and I hope you are too. Because the road to the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, starts right now.
