The Calgary Stampeders have made the change at QB after Labour Classic bomb out after Jake Maier threw 4 interceptions in a disappointing loss in the penultimate game of the season, 35-20 against the provincial rivals Edmonton. Maier went 22/34 for 297 and a touchdown along with the interceptions, while in 4th quarter Logan Bonner took over going 4/6 with 33 yards in a single drive. Speaking of Bonner, he is taking over the starters role in a short week facing the same Edmonton team on Friday the 7th.

Bonner hasn’t had many opportunities in the CFL, replacing Jake Maier in a blowout loss to Ottawa 6 weeks ago going 4/8 for 66 yards, again in the 4th quarter in his only other appearance in a CFL game in his career. He signed with the Stampeders after a college career that had him start 15 total games at Arkansas State in 2019 and 2020, before transferring to Utah State, starting all but one of the 18 games over the ’21 and ’22 seasons he participated in. Career 59.1% in college ball, with 7525 yards and an interception ratio of 2.9%.

It remains to be seen how the young gun will be in pro football and I’m looking forward to seeing how he’ll perform, as he has a similar resume, possibly an even better resume, to a former Stampeders QB when he made his first start in the CFL. Is this move going to reveal the next Bo Levi Mitchell? In case you’re unfamiliar with the legend, Bo Levi Mitchell is the Stampeders record holder for most passing yards(32,541), second in touchdowns(188). Let’s watch and find out if Logan Bonner has that in him. Tune in to TSN on September 7th at 5pm ET in Canada and CFL+ in the States.
